The Grand Opening Concert

Biella, Fondazione Pistoletto (9th September 2024, 19:00)

A spectacular opening concert gives the “A” to the second edition of the Oropa Music Festival, featuring our artistic director Federico Gad Crema and Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto, addressing a stimulating talk that compares two generations of artists, discussing important themes such as preventive peace and the importance of art in society.

The musical program is designed around the theme of love, with works by Schumann, Kreisler, and Massarani.

The former, during a particularly long separation from his beloved Clara Wieck and at a time when their future together was all but certain, wrote the Fantaisie op.17 in 1836; a love letter in music, a culmination of passion, virtuosity, and delicacy, underscored by the words written to his beloved in March 1838: “perhaps the most impassioned music I have ever written”.

Next, Italian pianist Luca Buratto performs an unpublished work by his grandfather, composer Renzo Massarani – protégé of Respighi and of Jewish religion, whose music was banned as a result of the racial laws of ’38 – composed the piece “sposalizio” in 1920 for the wedding of two of his dear relatives.

The event ends on a high note with the talented Bulgarian violinist Lora Markova in a duo with Federico Gad Crema, to express joy and sorrow in love with Kreisler’s Liebesleid and Liebesfreud.
